Gulab Jamun Recipe

Gulab Jamun is an all-time favorite sweet of everyone. It is made of khoya or mawa. Khoya is basically dried evaporated milk solids – which is obtained by continuously cooking the milk on a low flame. 

Nowadays, khoya is easily available in supermarkets. But make sure to use the fresh khoya or check the packaging date before buying it. 

You know the first dish I had made in my life was the Gulab Jamun and I got many appreciations from my beloved ones and I felt really happy that moment. And I thought of sharing my gulab jamun recipe with others too so, I had planned of making gulab jamun on any special day and fortunately, I got a reason for preparing it as the Independence Day & Raksha Bandhan was coming together on the same day. So, without wasting my time I had made it for all of you.

Here I am sharing with you all the Gulab Jamun recipe for Independence Day/Raksha Bandhan Special, with step by step procedure, along with the photos & video for your reference.

INGREDIENTS FOR GULAB JAMUN  

For Gulab Jamun Dough Making & Frying
  • 250 GMS – Khoya or Mawa (Fresh)
  • 3 Tbsp – All-Purpose Flour (Maida)
  • 1 Pinch – Cooking Soda
  • 1 Tsp – Milk (Doodh)
  • 1/4th Tsp – Cardamom (Elaichi) Powder
  • Oil – For deep frying the Gulab Jamun
For Gulab Jamun Sugar Syrup – 
  • 300 GMS - Sugar (Cheeni)
  • 300 ML – Water (Pani)
  • 1/4th Tsp – Rose Water (Gulab Jal)
  • 2-3 Drops - Lemon Juice
For Gulab Jamun Stuffing 
  • 150 GMS – Khoya or Mawa (Fresh)
  • 3 Tsp – Almond(Badam),Cashew Nut(Kaju) & Pistachio(Pista) Flakes
  • 1 Pinch – Orange Food Color
  • 1 Pinch – Green Food Color
Instruction for making Gulab Jamun is as follows

1. In a mixing bowl, mash and soften the Khoya (or) Mawa – 250 GMS (Without any lumps in it), Further add the All-Purpose Flour (Maida) – 3 Tbsp, Cooking Soda – 1 Pinch, Cardamom (Elaichi) Powder – 1/4th Tsp & Milk (Doodh) – 1 Tsp. Mix everything well to a soft dough and let it rest for 10 minutes by covering the lid.








2. Let’s begin with the preparation of gulab jamun stuffing, Khoya (or) Mawa – 150 GMS (Mash & Soften it to the dough), Now make the three sections of the dough, first for orange layer, second for white layer and third for green layer.

3. Take the first section of khoya (or) mawa dough then add Orange Food Color and Almond(Badam), Cashew Nut(Kaju) & Pistachio(Pista) Flakes to make Orange Color Layer. Repeat the same process for other layers (White and Green Color)







4. Now the stuffing and dough is ready for making gulab jamun balls for frying. Apply little ghee to your fingers and palm and start making the Jamun balls by pinching a ball sized dough, roll it between the palm and flatten it for adding the stuff. Now combine the stuff and make layers of each color, roll it and add it to the flatten Jamun dough gently cover and seal the dough without any cracks. Make gulab jamun balls ready for frying.











5. Aside, start making sugar syrup, take a cooking pot add Water (Pani) – 300 ML, Sugar (Cheeni) – 300 GMS, Rose Water (Gulab Jal) – 1/4th Tsp and few drops of Lemon Juice. Stir well till the sugar gets dissolved.




6. Boil and Simmer it for 5 minutes, when it is ready turn, off the stove and keep it aside


7. For frying Jamun balls, heat kadia on low flame, deep fry the Jamun balls until it turns to golden brown color and come up floating on oil. Remove the gulab jamun and then drain them on kitchen towels to remove the excess oil.





8. Finally, place the Gulab Jamun in the lukewarm sugar syrup (or) keep the sugar syrup pot on a low flame and then add the gulab jamun balls, cook for a while by covering the lid and turn off the stove.



9. After an hour open the lid and dish out the tasty gulab jamuns in a bowl. Garnish it with almonds or pistachio flakes.





Serve it warm or room temperature or you can also refrigerator the gulab jamun and serve with vanilla flavor ice-cream.
